A Pain Medication as Potent as Morphine without the Risk of Dependence?

A Pain Medication as Potent as Morphine without the Risk of Dependence?

The need for prescription opiate medication (pain medication), such as morphine, may arise for just about anyone.  For most, it serves it purpose post-surgery or post-injury, but for some it is the start to addiction and dependence, and for others, specifically addicts in recovery, it can be the cause of a terrible period of relapse.  Some addicts in recovery, so afraid of the potential danger in opiate therapy, harrowingly opt to treat severe pain post-surgery … Read entire article »

I Take My Prescribed Meds…And I’m SOBER

I Take My Prescribed Meds…And I’m SOBER

Sobriety is often a matter of grey area rather than black and white, and such is the case when it comes to taking prescribed medications while working a program. From psychiatric medication to narcotics used to alleviate pain after a surgical procedure, the bottom line is that if these are not being misused and the person who’s prescribed them is practicing rigorous honesty, then it isn’t a relapse. Although some of these medications can ignite … Read entire article »

The Potential of Probuphine

The Potential of Probuphine

Suboxone.  Subutex.  Methadone.  Vivitrol.  Naltrexone.  Rehabs.  Detox facilities. These are just a few of the countless ways that many of the approximately 2.3 million opioid addicts in the USA have tried to maintain a program of sobriety or maintenance.  Unfortunately, some of these have proved to be just as addictive as the drugs they’re supposed to help addicts wean themselves off of.  Some have led to misuse regardless of their physical addiction potential, while others simply … Read entire article »

Drug and Alcohol Problems on the Rise

As it turns out, more and more Americans are making appointments with their doctors to seek treatment for drug- and/or alcohol- related problems.  As a result, the number of drug and alcohol problems diagnosed by medical professionals has increased substantially over the last decade.  There was a 70% increase that was measured between 2001 and 2009, according to researchers.  The number of reported doctor visits by patients seeking treatment for drug or alcohol abuse increased from 10.6 million between 2001 and 2003 to 18 million between 2007 and 2009. A sharp increase in the use of narcotic painkillers is partially to blame, according to the new research.  The authors of the study say that the increase is attributed largely to patients receiving prescriptions for painkillers, which is becoming a national trend. … Read entire article »

An Addict’s Will to Change

An Addict’s Will to Change

I had fifteen months clean before I relapsed on May 11, 2011.  My run lasted a little over a year.  I thought I would only use one time so I could escape from the immediate situation and the hell inside my head, but heroin doesn’t work that way – certainly not for me.  One night turned into a year and I still feel like I just woke up from some awful fever dream. The first few … Read entire article »

A Pure Alcoholic

A Pure Alcoholic

My story consists of only one addiction – alcohol; I guess you could call me a “pure bread alcoholic”!  I felt the need to experiment with hard core drugs like coke, meth or heroin. I was always scared of them, knowing how addicted to alcohol I was I did not want to be addicted to coke, meth or heroin. On most occasions, I felt left out when attending AA meetings; these days most of the individuals … Read entire article »

A MerryJuana Christmas

On December 9th, a narcotic detective in the Rhineland Palatine area in Germany arrested a Berlin hippy when they discovered a peculiar Christmas tree. Trimmed with lights and tinsel, it turns out he had decorated his 6 foot tall Cannabis plant as a Christmas tree. The marijuana plant, along with 150 grams of weed, was confiscated. The resident was arrested and is being held. The 58 year old man had said he was planning on adding more decorations and putting presents under the tree to be opened on Christmas morning. An original member of the “old 68ers” a well bread hippie, will most likely be waking up on Christmas morning in a German prison. The best part is, this is not the first time Cannabis has been used for Holiday decorations. … Read entire article »

Do Celebrities Get Preferential Treatment in Jail?

Although jail is definitely not a spa and does not include pampering, celebrities still get preferential treatment. When Paris Hilton went to jail she was allowed her cell phone for certain hours out of the day in her private cell but still managed to complain about the food she was fed (the food she was fed was not even jail food). When Hilton was released she made a statement to the press that jail had changed her life. She said she meditated while reading Ekchart Tolle books and had decided to help humanity by doing service work for less fortunate children. I have still yet to see any of this progress on her behalf. Of course the main story today is Lindsay Lohan’s stint in the joint. She is sentenced to 3 … Read entire article »
