Bewitched By The Needle

There have been untold numbers of articles written about how using drugs intravenously can cause an addiction to go from bad to worse, and I can definitely attest to that.  However, I experienced something much more than a full-blown drug addiction when I started shooting up at the age of seventeen.  Being introduced to the world of needles caused an intense mental addiction to the act of putting a needle in my veins, no matter what substance was in the syringe itself. My drug addiction started quite early and I was on and running from the start. I was fourteen years-old when I had my first drug experience with cocaine, which I kept in my Catholic High School locker room and snorted with a peer.  A couple of skeletal lines and … Read entire article »

Methamphetamine Use may lead to Anorexia

Researchers at the University of Illinois conducted experiments to draw inferences between methamphetamine’s effects on fruit flies that are currently believed to hold true for human counterparts.  Based on previous studies, researchers found that fruit flies and humans have similar reactions when exposed to meth. (ScienceDaily)  Using the fruit flies as a model to replicate human digestion and metabolic conversion, scientists gradually increased methamphetamine levels in fruit flies throughout several week-long intervals.  The result was that exposing fruit flies to methamphetamine intake in their food supply correlates to early onset signs of anorexia and negative caloric consumption. In previous studies on humans, research has indicated that methamphetamine abuse can “burden the body with toxic metabolic byproducts and weaken the heart, muscles and bones.  It alters energy metabolism in the brain and kills … Read entire article »

Gay Drug Abuse Rates Higher than Heterosexual Counterparts

Gay Drug Abuse Rates Higher than Heterosexual Counterparts

It’s no secret that the Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) communities posses higher rates of drug use than the general heterosexual community.  Gay men have significantly higher rates of Marijuana, Cocaine, Ecstasy, Ketamine, and GHB use.  While there is little research on Lesbian drug use, they display higher rates of drug use versus their heterosexual counterparts. (Pride Institute). Drug use is veritably higher among LGBTQ youth, they seem to be a “high-risk demographic.”  Dr. Michael … Read entire article »

Largest Meth Bust in US History

In Gilroy, California, Sacramento police raided a home last Thursday. Police officials are stating that this bust is the biggest this country has ever seen. Over 600 pounds of methamphetamine was found and seized. It took Sacramento’s County Sheriff Department two years to crack down and pull through with this bust. Authorities state that a Mexican cartel was behind this. A a result, eight Mexican nationals were arrested. Penalties for these eight men are going to be determined in federal court; most likely they will be sentenced to life in federal prison. In my own opinion, this headline of being the “largest” bust in the U.S. history is just to attract the world’s eyes. Why not just go in and stop the nonsense immediately after they have found the lead? Come … Read entire article »

Fighting Meth Online

In the state of Indiana, law enforcements are cracking down on meth. Meth destroys the mind, body, and spirit. Not only that but users put the valuable things in life such as their family behind them and put the drug in front of everything else. The law enforcements are at an emergency to shut down meth labs found with children present. Over 100 Indiana children have been taken from homes with meth labs this year. One third of these children removed from the households tested positive for meth. “There is not a drug out there that is more addictive and damaging to people, homes, and families than methamphetamine,” said State Police 1st. Sargent Nikki Crawford. Pseudoephedrine is the key ingredient found in meth and is an over-the-counter drug at pharmacies. Indiana State … Read entire article »
