My Path to Sobriety and Gratefulness

After being in rehab for over five months and achieving sobriety, I have finally turned my cell phone back on. However, my old friends and connections back home where I was involved in the drug scene were unaware of this. This is not to say I haven’t been in contact with my friends. I am the type of drug addict who compartmentalizes his addiction. I have some really good friends whom I will always stay in contact with no matter what. On the other hand there has always been another area of friends who I am solely involved with due to drug use.  As much as I try to compartmentalize these two aspects of my life, they occasionally cross paths. This happened today. About thirty minutes ago I received a phone call … Read entire article »

Lil Wayne’s Seizures Due To Drugs?

Lil Wayne, one of the most famous and successful rap artists of our time, should be enjoying himself and his upcoming LP release, but instead he is recovering from what is reported to be multiple seizures. This is the second time in six months that the rapper has been hospitalized for seizures; in October, his private jet had to have an emergency landing due to his symptoms. These symptoms are certainly startling, but they may not be inexplicable, especially due to Weezy’s heavy involvement in drugs, which are proven to increase and cause seizures and seizure-like symptoms. Drugs, whether they are prescription narcotics or antiepileptics, can increase the likeliness of seizures. Illicit drugs, such as heroin, cocaine, and hallucinogens are proven to cause severe seizures and strokes, especially when they are … Read entire article »

Presidential Candidates’ Ignorance of the “War on Drugs”

The “war on drugs” has been a proverbial issue for the past forty years since President Nixon declared “war” on illegal drugs.  Since 1971, the United States has expended over one trillion dollars trying to end or at least put a strain on the trade.  Our country has not only achieve only minor success—at best—in its efforts to curtail the drug business, but our government has sent innocent people to prison in the process, ruining millions of lives. Recently, sources have blamed our two presidential candidates, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, for ignoring the “war on drugs” that has destroyed and ended thousands of lives and created massive, powerful drug cartels.  The violence because of drugs has not only ravaged Mexico, it is now wreaking havoc in the U.S. as well. During … Read entire article »

City of Los Angeles Votes to Ban Medicinal Marijuana

City of Los Angeles Votes to Ban Medicinal Marijuana

The City of Los Angeles recently voted on a city-wide ban of all medicinal marijuana dispensaries which could put more than 1,000 shops out of business. Police Chief Charlie Beck has claimed that, “dispensaries can be hot spots for crime” and citied various burglaries, armed robberies and killings before a city council.  Whether these dispensaries contribute to the crime rate within these “hot spots” is unknown. I would pose the question, “What about the crime rates … Read entire article »

Violent Films + Vicodin = Tragic Dark Knight Shootings

Yes, what we watch matters!  The kind of entertainment we spend millions of dollars to make here in Hollywood and then stuff down people’s throats all around the world matters.  The video games that kids play these days are pure violence.  They glorify and encourage it.  Because simulated violence is ubiquitous, we have become desensitized, and shooting a theater full of people becomes a plausible concept for a person who is mentally unstable.   Then, when something like this happens, everyone is shocked.  They ought not to be.  I think the only way to prevent future horrific tragedies of this kind is to lessen the overall violence in our culture, and prevent drug abuse.  Anything less would be just like using a Band Aid to cover a gaping gunshot wound. We cannot continue to … Read entire article »

L.A.’s Pot Dispensaries No More?

L.A.’s Pot Dispensaries No More?

Two days ago on July 23rd, L.A.’s City Council vigorously voted to put a stop to marijuana dispensaries all over the city.  Santa Barbara, a fellow Californian city has already ended the life of its dispensaries all over the county.  There are approximately five-hundred and fifty dispensaries around the Los Angeles area, soon to be closed due to neighborhood concerns and numerous court rulings questioning a city’s right to control the weed retailers.  The council’s … Read entire article »

Locked Up without Proper Substance Abuse Treatment

Locked Up without Proper Substance Abuse Treatment

Currently there is a movement pushing away from putting non-violent drug offenders in jail. It is difficult to change the direction of ever-increasing imprisonment that the criminal justice system seems to be traveling towards, but it is necessary. Moms suffer in a particular way in this system, because they are separated from, and often lose their children. Obviously there are some cases in which foster care and adoption are ideal options, but for the most part … Read entire article »

Drug Cartels Going Underground

Drug Cartels Going Underground

Authorities recently found several new tunnels designed to transport drugs across the US- Mexico border.  Used to escape detection at heightened crossings into the states, these tunnels seem to have been built by someone with knowledge of engineering.  Lined with plywood, they are reinforced using four-by-six beams; one of the tunnels was found in an abandoned strip mall in Western Arizona.  The other started in Tijuana and was leading toward San Diego, but was discovered … Read entire article »

Red Cross Works to End this Drug War!!!

Red Cross Works to End this Drug War!!!

Recently, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies addressed the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs and called for the decriminalization of drugs.  After decades of failed policy, it should be an obvious fact to the governments and law agencies of the world that stigmatization and punishment of drug users only forces them into lives of hiding in the crevices and cracks of the city, where they must constantly avoid encounters with … Read entire article »

Why the War on Drugs Is a Joke

Whether the powers that be choose to ignore or confront it, the fact is that drugs will be sold, bought and used for as long as civilization stands. In a country where an individual is free to do nearly anything he pleases, so long as his actions do not harm another or their property, it is perplexing to think that he may not experiment with or use certain mind-altering substances. The argument that drugs are dangerous or addictive does not hold any weight nor has it dissuaded millions of drug users from abstaining. You are free to drink alcohol until your liver fails, smoke cigarettes until your lungs corrode, eat fast food until your heart explodes and spend your money on worthless products that advertisers promise will bring us more … Read entire article »
