Drug, Alcohol & Dual Diagnosis Treatment Centers

Drug treatment centers provide rehabilitation services for drug addiction, alcoholism, and co-occurring mental health disorders (dual diagnosis). Addiction and mental health related disorders existing together, also called dual diagnosis, are an increasingly popular focus among drug treatment centers. Today, dual diagnosis treatment is a service offered in most drug rehabilitation centers and alcohol rehab programs, however there are treatment centers that specialize in dual diagnosis treatment, and provide drug rehab and alcohol rehab services as an integrated part of their dual diagnosis rehabilitation programs. Drug centers and alcohol rehab programs exist to help individuals who suffer from addiction and alcoholism acquire the tools they need to live free from chemical dependency. Addiction treatment centers are facilities designed to help alcoholics and addicts heal physically, mentally and spiritually, and rediscover themselves in a drug and alcohol-free environment.

Eating Disorder Treatment Center

An eating disorder center typically provides inpatient, day-patient and outpatient services. The staff at an eating disorder clinic are trained and experienced in the treatment of eating disorders. An experienced multidisciplinary team is required to address the medical complications listed above associated with eating disorders.

Residential treatment or Inpatient treatment is recommended when an individual encounters difficulties with family conflict, emotional distress, substance abuse, and/or eating disorders, and cannot be managed in the home. Due to the nature of the disease many individuals need to begin treatment in the inpatient level of treatment. To increase the likelihood of long-term recovery many progress on to Intensive Day Treatment Programs, which provide extended care options.

Gambling Addiction Treatment Center

The purpose of a gambling addiction treatment center is to provide therapy, treatment, education, training, research, and to assist problem gamblers and their families. Gambling treatment centers are designed to assist the individual in breaking through denial while experiencing unconditional acceptance and guidance. Education and information about progression of compulsive gambling/spending behaviors is often provided. A family treatment component is often included.

Sexual Addiction Treatment Center

Individuals seeking treatment for compulsive sexual behaviors may chose to participate in a trauma resolution program at a sexual addiction recovery treatment center. Pornography, unhealthy sexualized relationships and willingly violating sexual boundaries create attitudes and situations that can wreck a marriage, a home, a life through the power of compulsion and addition.

Other Popular Treatment Facility Types

Certain treatment centers are designed specifically to address the effects of trauma, traumatic issues and experiences. These treatment facilities address the unique needs of people experiencing posttraumatic reactions to past trauma and abuse. Many are equipped to also address chemical dependency and dual diagnosis. As with other treatment programs, a family component is usually offered.

In recent decades the impact of addiction, eating disorders and other mental and psychological on the family has been recognized. Treatment centers that deal specifically with codependency are now common. Recognizing and dealing with dependency needs is an important step for anyone who has lived with addiction, dysfunction, neglect or abuse. Those who have lived with addiction, psychological or emotional dysfunction often carry wounds that can undermine positive feelings about our relationships and ourselves. These issues can interfere with our ability to lead healthy and productive lives. Treatment centers dealing with codependency combine psycho-education, psychotherapy and family of origin work to assist individuals to express emotional pain from their past, as well as more recent life experiences and to recognize their strengths. The goal of these treatment facilities is to enable individuals to regain their personal power to make positive life changes on their own behalf.

Some of the larger treatment centers are full service facilities delivering a continuum of alcohol and drug addiction rehab, treatment, education, mental health services, medical detox and residential rehab. Some also provide outpatient services, sober-living housing, aftercare, HIV/AIDS Services, family counseling and programs, women’s services, domestic violence intervention, anger management and community education services. Many have transitional living programs attached or refer to these after treatment is completed.
