About Us
Treatment is recognized as occurring within four primary stages. The "ADMISSION STAGE" obviously occurs as the client first presents for treatment. The two primary goals of this stage is to assist the client in orientation and in breaking through denial. Working within the framework of the traditional, "twelve-step" model of recovery, the adult program begins to intervene on the denial associated with this disease early and continually throughout the treatment process. Working with the medical team the counselors intervene while the discomfort and hopelessness of the disease is most evident, to assist the client to break through their denial. As soon as the client is released by the physician to attend groups, the client is linked up with other members participating in the program for intervention and support in the groups.
Areas of Expertise
Summer sky used a very integrated approach to treatment. since much of the disease encourages isolation, much of treatment revolves around group education and process therapy. The groups are all designed so that each of the daily group objectives integrate with the preceding and the following group's objectives. Each are interwoven weekly so that a client may enter at any point in the week and will have the same opportunity to begin and end treatment with the same knowledge base and skill level as any other member of his group. This facilitates cohesion within the groups, and builds bridges to combat the antisocial, isolative tendencies associated with this disease. This program balances out the need for individualized care and attention by maintaining very low counselor to client ratios (caseloads are limited to five clients per counselor). This allows for daily individual attention from the counselors. The physician is available on campus, daily for eight hours, and maintains an exclusive practice for the clients enrolled in our program. He sees each one, individually, daily.
