Treatment episode data statistics (TEDS) collected from Louisiana detox centers in 2004 show that in the State, the largest number of persons suffered from addiction to marijuana and cocaine. From the 28,433 persons admitted for treatment at alcohol or drug detox centers, 26.2% received treatment for cocaine addiction while 22.2% received treatment for marijuana addiction. Persons admitted for alcohol detox programs accounted for 13.3%.

Louisiana drug detox centers offer several types of programs that help patients recover from drug dependence or abuse. Some drug detox centers run Federal programs that help people from the financially weaker sections of society get access to treatment. Others offer luxurious retreats where drug detoxification is done through in house programs that use a combination of medication and drugs.

Besides drug detoxification, some centers offer dual programs for people who are addicted to both drugs and alcohol. In addition, there are specialized Louisiana detox centers that exclusively offer alcohol detox programs. All Louisiana drug detox and alcohol detox centers offer a range of out patient and residential programs that include medication, counseling and groups sessions that help a person recover from the addiction and develop the skills to keep away from it for a lifetime.
