Once an Addict Always an Addict

Recently I celebrated six years clean and sober.  Shortly after this I went on a trip to Montreal.  I was at some after hours clubs and it seemed like everyone was smoking.  I thought to myself "what's the big deal if I have one cigarette".  I ended up smoking one cigarette and that ended up to me smoking a whole pack a day for the 10 days following!  I then quit which was so difficult.  Although this may seem like obvious advice to many for me it was so important to get through one day without smoking.  After one day things going easier.  It was still difficult but i felt like it was actually possible since I went the day before without smoking.

Re: Once an Addict Always an Addict

That is how it works for me, too! If I smoke just one ciggarette, it's back to a pack a day for me. Then I have to go through hell to stop. I've proven this to myself again and again and again. Last time I quit I had to put those really nasty pictures of lung cancer and grizzly old smokers up all over my room!
