LSD
LSD, also known as lysergic acid diethylamide or acid is one of the psychedelic drugs in the class of hallucinogens. It is a man made or synthetic drug created back in the 1930’s, but became a very popular drug in the 1960’s. It is manufactured from lysergic acid, which is found on ergot, a fungus that typically grows on rye. LSD causes one to see things, hear things, feel things or believe things that really are not there.
LSD is usually taken orally. It is a liquid form that is dripped onto tiny pieces of paper, onto sugar cubes or in gelatin tabs that are then dissolved in your mouth. Sometimes the liquid itself is put into little plastic bottles, like some breath fresheners and then the drops are placed directly on your tongue.
History shows that early in the 1940’s LSD was used tested for medicinal purposes. Particularly in the mental illness field, some doctors thought that LSD might help those suffering from psychiatric illnesses. The government even used LSD to try to gain information, using it as a kind of “mind control” drug. After several of the participants explained they experienced “faces melting” and “walls breathing”, they decided that LSD was not a good choice for this kind of experiment.
Depending on how much LSD one uses, the effects of LSD usually start within about 30 minutes after it is taken. Sometimes the effects can last anywhere from 6 – 12 hours. This period of time is commonly called a “trip”. If the effects are negative, it’s called a “bad trip”. You never know how this drug will affect a person. It depends on their state of mind before taking the drug, how much of the drug they are taking, and if they have ever taken it before. Some reactions or side effects while under the influence of LSD can be:
- Dilated pupils
- Jaw clenching
- Fever
- Goose bumps
- Increased heart beat
- Euphoria
- Sleeplessness
- Nausea
- Visions of colors or “breathing” objects
- Illusions where some objects appear to change shape
- Colorful trails of moving objects
Some other risks you may want to be aware of are the fact the LSD will impair your judgment both mentally and visually. You could see something, when in fact it is something completely different….and if you are behind the wheel of an automobile when this happens, it can be very dangerous or even fatal. Some people experience “flashbacks”. These are situations when you may feel you are experiencing some of the effects of LSD long after you have taken the drug. These “flashbacks” may happen days, weeks, months or even years after the last time you used LSD.
The most important thing here is that, as with many drugs, you never really know how you will react to a drug – especially a drug that you get on the streets. Many people have had terrible experiences with LSD, fear of insanity, terrifying feelings of lack of control and even death. It’s not worth it. If you need help quitting, or need some support, don’t be afraid to reach out.
