The Obsession To Be Thin

In this society thin is attractive. Most people want to be attractive. There are other obvious ways to have an attractive figure that include eating healthy and exercise, which oddly enough takes as much effort as bulimia. In most cases those with an eating disorder do not stop engaging in it once they reach an ideal weight, or rather, underweight. With that, one must assume this issue goes deeper than just wanting to be thin and attractive.

The most common reason someone becomes bulimic is insecurity. That a person with bulimia is insecure and once he/she reaches their ideal weight the insecurity doesn’t go away. Bulimia, especially vomit induced, becomes a multi-faceted issue than just for a person to want to become skinny. Self induced vomiting is also a form of self-harm. Just like cutting is a form of self-harm. The throat becomes sore accompanied with dry heaving and making oneself gag, which is painful. Purging quickly becomes not only a way to become thin but a way to deal with overwhelming emotions, such as resentment, guilt, sadness etc. Once one starts a habit of bulimia it can range up to bingeing and purging than five times or more a day.
