Substance Abuse Rates Higher for Teens with ADHD
A wide-ranging study has found higher rates of substance abuse and cigarette-smoking among teens diagnosed with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The study, published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, was conducted by researchers from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, along with six health centers across the U.S., and is the first to examine substance abuse and treatment among adolescents with ADHD on a large scale. “This study underscores the significance of the substance abuse risk for both boys and girls with childhood ADHD,” Brooke Molina, Ph.D., lead author of the report, told PsychCentral in an interview. “These findings also are the strongest test to date of the association between medication for ADHD and teenage substance abuse.” The researchers involved in the study observed over 600 … Read entire article »

Ecstasy and Speed: Destroying the Mental Health of Our Youth
Methamphetamine (speed) and MDMA (ecstasy) have become very popular, not only in the club and rave scenes where they were first introduced, but in schools’ everywhere, jeopardizing the mental health of teens. High school students who partake in the use of these drugs are more susceptible to the effects of depression later on in life. This information comes in the form of a study, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. In the study, 3,880 high school students from underprivileged areas of Quebec, Canada were interviewed between 2003 and 2008 and asked how often they participated in the use of speed, ecstasy, or both. “Digital Drugs” – The New Way Teens Are Getting “High”
iDosing is the latest fad to hit the internet. iDosing is advertised as a “digital drug” that will allegedly alter your state of consciousness in a “safe” way. It’s very questionable whether these “digital drugs” will stick or even become banned. iDosing is a new way for teens (the demographic iDosing caters to) to get ‘high’ legally. At the surface iDosing is seemingly harmless. iDosing consists of several 15 minute tracks of hypnotizing music with titles such as, ‘cocaine’ ‘peyote’ ‘orgasm’ ect. There are videos on youtube of teens being videotaped while ‘getting high’ on iDosing. I found these to look incredibly forced.
