Methamphetamine Use may lead to Anorexia

Researchers at the University of Illinois conducted experiments to draw inferences between methamphetamine’s effects on fruit flies that are currently believed to hold true for human counterparts.  Based on previous studies, researchers found that fruit flies and humans have similar reactions when exposed to meth. (ScienceDaily)  Using the fruit flies as a model to replicate human digestion and metabolic conversion, scientists gradually increased methamphetamine levels in fruit flies throughout several week-long intervals.  The result was that exposing fruit flies to methamphetamine intake in their food supply correlates to early onset signs of anorexia and negative caloric consumption.
