Lady Gaga Comes Clean About Her Marijuana Addiction

Lady Gaga Comes Clean About Her Marijuana Addiction

It’s not every day that a mega-celebrity, in this case Lady Gaga, speaks candidly about her personal battle with marijuana. But she told all about her tenure as queen of sexy-crazy and now, high. “I have been addicted to it and it’s ultimately related to anxiety coping and it’s a form of self-medication,” Gaga told a radio talk show host in New York City. There are those within the drug and alcohol recovery community who do … Read entire article »

CA Supreme Court allows Cities, Counties to Ban Marijuana Dispensaries

The supreme court of the state of California has ruled that the state’s cities and counties rightfully have the power to ban medical marijuana dispensaries within their respective territories. The state’s highest court made this ruling in a unanimous fashion less than two decades after California first adopted the bill permitting medical marijuana. The court said neither that bill, Proposition 215, nor any “companion measure” prevents local governments from passing their own legislation to outlaw storefront dispensaries. Justice Martin Baxter explained why the court made its ruling, saying, “While some counties and cities might consider themselves well-suited to accommodating medical marijuana dispensaries, conditions in other communities might lead to the reasonable decision that such facilities within their borders, even if carefully sited, well managed, and closely monitored, would present unacceptable local … Read entire article »

Dopeless in Seattle… For Now

Dopeless in Seattle… For Now

Voters in the states of Washington and Colorado have recently approved measures decriminalizing marijuana.  Despite this, there is no place to legally purchase it. Both states now allow adults over the age of 21 to consume and possess small amounts of marijuana, but there is no place to get it yet. This is because the stores that marijuana profiteers hope to set up are being shunned in many communities. The Colorado law, known as constitutional Amendment 64, … Read entire article »

Chronic Marijuana Consumption Induces Brain Inflammation

Chronic Marijuana Consumption Induces Brain Inflammation

Heavy, long-term marijuana use may cause inflammation in the brain that induces problems associated with learning, reaction time, and coordination, a new study suggests. During the study, researchers of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona administered delta9-tetrahydracannabinol, or THC, one of the active ingredients in marijuana, to mice for a period of six days. While under the influence of the drug, the mice were required to perform several various tasks in order to test their coordination … Read entire article »

Another Amanda Bynes Meltdown

Former child actress Amanda Bynes made news again this week after another outlandish stunt. Bynes was taken into custody by Ventura Co. Sheriff’s deputies this week after lighting a fire in front of an old folk’s home in her hometown of Thousand Oaks, CA. Bynes has been in the news a lot this year, but she certainly isn’t picking up any “good press.” Last December she entered into a civil agreement to settle a lawsuit against her after hit-and-run charges were filed. She was also charged with driving on a suspended license, and she actually lost her driver’s license for a while. Then, after being asked to leave a gymnastics’ class for her behavior, she was kicked out of the gym for smoking pot inside the locker room and arrested for … Read entire article »

Young Patriots Star Aaron Hernandez Falls Hard

The New England Patriots are suffering from a round of disappointment this week, as one of their premier players was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and five additional charges related to firearms. After only three seasons in the National Football League, Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has fallen from grace – or, perhaps, from the heights of professional success. The football star had been part of one of the league’s best teams. He is now in jail awaiting a probable cause hearing after a judge denied him bail following the June 17th incident. The Patriots released Hernandez as soon as they discovered that he had been charged with murder. The 2011 Pro-Bowl selection had recently signed a five-year, $40 million contract. The details of the crime are quite startling, as it has … Read entire article »

New York City Mayor Bloomberg calls medical marijuana “one of the greatest hoaxes of all time”

Although recent surveys demonstrate that public support of marijuana has steadily increased, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg strongly voiced his disapproval of legalization efforts, calling medical marijuana “one of the greatest hoaxes of all time.” “Medical, my… come on. There’s no medical,” Bloomberg told WOR 710 AM, a New York news talk station, CBS New York reports. Just two days before the Mayor hit the airwaves, the New York State Assembly passed a bill that would decrease the punishment for possession of small quantities of marijuana to a fine, rather than an arrest. The next day, New York Physicians for Compassionate Care held a press conference, revealing that over 600 doctors support a medical marijuana program in New York State. Mayor Bloomberg, however, is not backing down from his stance. He referenced … Read entire article »

The Pros and Cons of Marijuana Legalization

The Pros and Cons of Marijuana Legalization

In today’s society, especially in the United States, there is a raging debate over whether the drug cannabis (also known by marijuana, weed, pot, ganja, and many other names) should be legalized.  Of course, there are pros and cons to legalizing marijuana, and both “sides” have good points to make. Ultimately, however, I come down on the side of legalization, and at the very least decriminalization and legal use of medical marijuana, even though I believe … Read entire article »

Cannabis and Canines: A Bad Mix

Cannabis and Canines: A Bad Mix

Just when you thought marijuana had run its course of absurdity in the news and everyday life, it pops right back up with something new – or, at the very least, noteworthy. This time, it has nothing to do with legalization, or human consumption. No, now, the question and problems being considered are those that appear in… I kid you not…dogs. Yes, dogs are now accidentally getting intoxicated by consuming marijuana. Not only that, but the … Read entire article »

Amanda Bynes Busted For Allegedly Getting Stoned in Her Gym

Former Nickelodeon and child television star Amanda Bynes has caught the attention of the media again for reportedly smoking weed in a dumb place. Earlier in April, Bynes was photographed with a large rolled cigarette in her hand, which is believed to be a joint. One week later, Bynes was busted at her New York gym for allegedly lighting up in the women’s locker room while celebrating “4/20.” According to sources, the young star was asked to leave the Planet Fitness in Harlem. They also asked her not to return and revoked her membership, indicating that they took the situation very seriously. Doesn’t Bynes get a little bit of grace because it was April 20th – or 4/20, the “stoner’s holiday”? Apparently not. A gym is a dumb place to be lighting up, especially if … Read entire article »
