Hoarding Gets Its Own Definition in the DSM
Made famous by popular T.V. shows such as Hoarding: Buried Alive on TLC and Hoarders on A&E, the mental illness known as “hoarding” afflicts nearly four million people in the U.S. and more than fifteen million worldwide, filling the lives and homes of the afflicted (and, often, their loved ones) with clutter. An autopsy has been performed and the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office is awaiting the results of toxicology tests. No powder was found on his body. Stallone’s body was discovered in his Studio City apartment in the early hours of Friday, 13 July 2012, by a housekeeper after the 36 year-old son of one-time Hollywood heavyweight Sylvester Stallone had not been heard from for several days, causing loved ones to express concern over his well-being. … Read entire article »

HOARDING: THE BEAST FROM WITHIN
I can trace the trigger for my hoarding back to age 14, shortly after returning home from Christmas vacation. I had my loot—as well as a number of other items—arranged on the floor of my bedroom, in a somewhat particular, somewhat randomly achieved order. I enjoyed the set-up, for reasons I can’t explain coherently, and decided to keep things as they were rather than tidy up. Then, shortly after New Year’s, my dad decided to … Read entire article »
