Situation In Rehab: The End Of Jersey Shore?

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, from the hit reality show Jersey Shore, confirmed recently that he had checked into Cirque Lodge, a rehabilitation center in the mountains of Utah, for a substance abuse problem.  Rumors had been going around that Sitch was in fact in rehab but he tried to deny the rumors last Tuesday via Twitter saying, “Don’t believe everything you read and hear”.  The next day he used Twitter to release a new statement saying, “The Situation Wants To Set The Record Straight”.  This was followed by a statement on the young TV stars official website which read,   “I have voluntarily taken steps to get control of a prescription medication problem I had due to exhaustion,” his statement said. “I have spent the past several weeks getting treatment for this problem and recuperating … Read entire article »

Hooking for drugs

Hooking for drugs

Hooking for drugs Addicts will do just about anything to get their next high. For me and many of my addict friends hooking for drugs and money wasn’t uncommon. Sleeping with men or women for money or drugs is something that hadn’t crossed my mind until writing this blog. Have you ever met or seen a hooker who was 100% sober and was a hooker because it was their life goal? Well I hope not at least! … Read entire article »

Gratitude

Gratitude

I am grateful for many things in my life since being sober. Some of those things people would say “why the hell are you grateful for that”? The very first thing that I have gratitude for is to my parents, for holding an intervention so I could go to rehab and get help. Also for them for financially supporting me in my recovery, and yet I still have no idea how I am going to … Read entire article »

Drinking and Using Friends

Drinking and Using Friends

Back in the day, my great friendships could be started as easily as giving out a cigarette or holding someone’s beer while they urinated on another school’s placard in front of its administration building.  These were the friends you could depend on—depend on to bring cheap vodka to your party or dance naked with in the wilderness around a bonfire.  But when things go tough or emotions were involved, we were all unready to be … Read entire article »

How To Hide Cigarette Smoking From Your Parents

How To Hide Cigarette Smoking From Your Parents

One prominent theme of being in recovery is that nearly everyone smokes cigarettes.  In my current sober living 9/11 girls smoke and most of the staff does, too.  I know my parents wouldn’t be pleased to hear that I smoke.  So how do you hide it?  There are several techniques, but the key is to not overdo anything with a scent.  If you do, it will look like you are hiding something, making parents all … Read entire article »

A Female’s Perspective on Sober Sex

A Female’s Perspective on Sober Sex

I used to just wear make-up, a short skirt, and small tank top, get drunk, dance, and wait for guys to dance with me.  Forty-five minutes later, we’d be naked.  I’d wake up in an unfamiliar bed, get dressed, and leave, preferably before my sexual liaison woke up.  There was no pillow talk.  The only talk actually was “what’s your name” and “Do you have any STDs I should know about? Have you been tested?”  … Read entire article »

Calm Down

Calm Down

All throughout my life (before I used, while I used, and during my sobriety) I just wanted everyone to calm down, bro. I always felt like everyone was just too hectic around me during all stages of my life. Some may say maybe it is I that is the hectic one and that I projected my feelings to others. If you think that, you need to calm down, bro. I’m not sure exactly what it … Read entire article »

Addiction Vaccination: The New Frontier?

Addiction Vaccination: The New Frontier?

As the disease concept of addiction gains a foothold and the medical establishment increases its understanding of the mechanisms involved, new medications are on the verge of reaching the market.  Increasingly the approach taken by pharmaceutical companies has been to attack the problem at its root: by creating vaccines that block the actions of certain drugs in the brain.  What are the potential benefits and drawbacks inherent to this promising development?  Vaccines that would arm the … Read entire article »

The Reason I Used

The Reason I Used

Often times it seems like in meetings we forget why we do drugs.  The main speakers generally hit on it, but what about everyone else.  Especially early in my sobriety this was something that confused me about the 12-step programs.  I didn’t just do drugs to mess up my life, depress me, make me anxious, and obsess me.  No, I did drugs for so many more reasons.  I thought that this made my use different … Read entire article »
