In many parts of the United States, drug use, manufacturing, or possession can place an individual in a number of life-annihilating legal situations. While the laws differ from place to place, many states treat the possession and/or use of controlled substances as if it were a crime against humanity: destructive, malicious – even evil. The catch to this is that, more often than not, it is simply a crime against an individual and that individual is usually the drug-offender himself. Often the drug-related “crime” may carry with it a felony charge; the “criminal” becomes stamped with the same label (felon) as murderers, rapists, arsonists, etc.; and the offender is forced to endure similar legal ramifications delivered unto far more destructive individuals.
