Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, commonly known as OCD, is a disorder that has to do with anxiety and is characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce apprehension, uneasiness, fear, or worry. People with the disorder often have repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing the associated anxiety, or by a combination of such obsessions and compulsions.

Cameron Diaz, the star of such movies as There’s Something About Mary, The Mask, and Charlie’s Angels is one star who has said in previous interviews that she OCD. Her obsessions and compulsions were germ oriented, and she claimed to have removed paint from the doorknobs in her house from cleaning them over and over again. She has since said she has “made peace” with the disorder and even gained the courage to remove stitches from The Daily Show’s Jon Stewarts wrist while being interviewed on the show!

Donald “The Donald” Trump, of the hit show The Apprentice, admits to having “borderline” obsessive compulsive disorder. Like Cameron Diaz, his phobia has to do with germs. He has said that he often refuses to shake people’s hands, especially the hands of teachers. He says that teachers have “17,000 germs per square inch on their desks!” He also says he refuses to press the ground floor button while riding elevators.

Titanic and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape star Leonardo DiCaprio also has OCD. He has said that he was obsessed with sidewalks as a child and that he would often try to step on cracks or gum stains. Doorways are also a big trigger due to his disorder. He admits that his compulsive tendencies worsened when he played Howard Hughes, a director and producer who suffered from extreme OCD, in the Movie The Aviator. “Let’s just say it took me a while to get to set, having to step on tons of things,” he says.

Howie Mandel of the hit show Deal or No Deal is another celebrity who admittedly suffers from OCD and from Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Like Donald Trump he also refuses to shake hands with people due to an intense fear of germs. In 2009 Mandel wrote a book about his exploits, titled Here’s the Deal: Don’t Touch Me.

Soccer extraordinaire David Beckham also suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. He has an obsession with organizing and pairing items by type or color. His wife, Victoria (Posh), of the British sensation “The Spice Girls” claims to have purchased three refrigerators for their home so that he can have one for salads, one for drinks, and one for other foods. The items in the refrigerators must be in even numbers. “If there’s three cans of Diet Coke, he’d throw one away instead of having three–because it has to be an even number,” Victoria says. “He’s got that obsessive-compulsive thing where everything has to match.”

Actor-turned-musician Billy Bob Thornton of such movies as Sling Blade and Bad Santa is another star who suffers from the disorder. He says his obsessive compulsive disorder began early in his childhood as result of abuse. His OCD expresses itself with mathematics and a numbers obsession. He even wrote a song about it called “Always Countin’.” Thornton says “Certain numbers represent certain people. And I can’t use that number in a certain circumstance. And then I have to use it in another circumstance.”

Singer-turned-Actor Justin Timberlake claims to have suffered from both obsessive compulsive disorder and attention deficit disorder. “You try living with that,” he says. “It’s complicated.” His OCD tendencies include having an obsession with lining up certain objects and he also must have a certain food items in his house at all times.
