Adults to be Held Accountable for Underage Drinkers

1
Well parents of California, looks as if the “you live in my house, you follow my rules,” saying will be holding even more value than you thought.

On Monday a 67-1 Assembly vote approved the legislation that holds parents accountable for the activities that are held under their roof. Adults that provide alcohol to underage kids at social gatherings are to be liable if a minor is injured or killed due to drinking. The legislation is being sent to the governor’s deck to be passed.

California would not be the first state to enforce potential “social host” legal responsibility on adults who knowingly serve alcohol to minors in their home. In this law alcohol would have to be the main cause of injury.

The law applies to adults in the privacy of their own homes providing liquor to minors, not commercial or licensed alcohol vendors.

Supporters of the bill say it will frighten adults from promoting underage drinking and there for reduce the number of alcohol related deaths.

Opponents of the bill argued that people over the age of 18 are adults under many areas of the law and should be held responsible for their actions.

It was told to me if I thought I was adult enough to partake in activities including but not limited to drinking and sex, then I was adult enough to deal with the consequences. I believe many times parents come to their child’s rescue so much, that the kid never learns their lesson and is guided into insanity. We aren’t forever minors who can look to our elders for a way out and if we as kids believe that is the truth, we walk into the world of adulthood with a deceived perception of the real life.
