Celebrity Drug Busts of 2012

The top Celebrity Drug Busts of 2012Calvin Broadus (a.k.a. Snoop Dogg/Snoop Lion)

Snoop Dogg/Snoop Lion was arrested on January 7th at three o’clock in the morning when his tour bus was flagged and searched at the infamous checkpoint on the I-10 freeway in Sierra Blanca, Texas.  This marked the first of many celebrity drug busts of 2012.  Snoop was on his way to San Antonio to see his son play in the East Bay Youth All-American Bowl at the Alamodome.

Two months prior, in late 2011, country singer Willie Nelson was cited and arrested at the same Sierra Blanca checkpoint for the same thing.  Both Nelson and Snoop were given a citation and sent of their way after receiving a court date.  Border Patrol and a drug sniffing K-9 entered the tour bus and found two ounces of marijuana in three different containers.  Snoop Dogg/Lion was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Hudspeth County Sherriff’s office released the following statement: “During a routine check of U.S. citizenship the inspecting Border Patrol agent detected the odor of marijuana emitting from the inside of the vehicle and requested the driver to pull into the secondary inspection lane for further inspection.”

The drug sniffing dogs found the weed stashed away in a trashcan on the bus. This was not the first time he was cited for possession of marijuana.  He was arrested and charged with possession twice in Burbank, California and once in Stockholm, Sweden.  He received a whopping 960 hours of community service for the two Burbank, California charges.

On June 28th, he was busted, yet again, in Norway at Kjevic Airport for possessing marijuana and too much cash.  This marked Snoop Dogg/Lion’s sixth offense having to do with marijuana possession since. His first offence was back in 2006 at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California. While going through security at the Norway airport a drug sniffing K-9 detected a suspicious odor coming from his baggage and they ultimately were searched. Officials found eight grams of marijuana and a large amount of cash. He ended up receiving a $1,980 fine for being in possession of marijuana, and another $7,000 fine for possessing the large amount of cash money. Snoop was in Norway to perform at a music festival in Kristiansand.

On July 27th the famous rapper was banned from Norway for two years. There is no doubt in my mind that Snoop Dogg/Lion will be cited again for possession of marijuana in the future.

Matthew Underwood

Former teen star Matthew Underwood, best known for his role as Logan Reese in the Nickelodeon TV show Zoey 101, was arrested on April 27th for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, as well as contributing the delinquency of a minor.  Arrest reports obtained by E! Entertainment revealed that police arrived at Underwood’s Port St. Lucie residence, search warrant in hand, to find the actor in the master bedroom with a 17 year-old girl, who claimed that she and Underwood slept in the master bedroom and that he gave her cannabis to smoke.

Following the arrest, the unidentified girl was handed over to the custody of her grandfather.  Underwood, meanwhile, was released after posting a $2,250 bond.  The 22 year-old subsequently stuck a plea bargain with prosecutors, pleading no contest to all charges in exchange for a sentence of a12-month probation and substance abuse evaluation.  In the wee hours of November 7th, Underwood was arrested and jailed in Port St. Lucie for violating his probation.

According to TMZ, Underwood violated five terms of his probation:

  • Failing a drug test
  • Failing to complete a victim impact panel
  • Failing to complete a substance abuse program
  • Failing to pay court fees
  • Failing to pay monies assessed by the court to his probation officer

Robin Thicke
On February 17th R&B singer Robin Thicke, the son of Alan Thicke of Growing Pains fame, was arrested when he was caught by the New York Police Department (NYPD) in New York City smoking a joint in a Cadillac Escalade.  The car was parked on 21st Street and 3rd Avenue in Manhattan near Gramercy Park.  The singer received a desk appearance ticket and was released.

According to popular gossip website, TMZ, Robin was very cooperative and even signed a few autographs at the scene.  He was, however, transported to the police station where he was issued a summons.  The whole ordeal took a whopping fifteen minutes.

In a December, 2011 interview on New York’s Power 105.1 radio station, he was asked about rumors that he was into drugs and the singer replied, “Oh gosh, let’s just put it this way…I’ve never met a drug that I didn’t like.”  He went on to say, “But when the baby shows up, you gotta (sic) focus [on that].  Baby first.” He was referring to his son, Julian, with wife, Paula Patton. Baby Julian Fuego was born in April of 2010, while the singer was opening up for Alicia Keys.

On a personal note, I was at an Alicia Keys concert at the Staples Center and was disappointed when Thicke was a no-show.  Keys announced that Robin was unable to appear due to the fact that his son was being born that night.  I obviously forgave him for not appearing.

Question: Do you think the singer received star treatment from the NYPD?  Let us at Treatment4Addiction.com know how you feel by leaving a comment in the comment field below.

Conrad Hilton
Conrad Hilton, brother of Paris and Nicky and son of Kathy and Rick, was arrested on July 27th when he violated his probation by testing positive for marijuana.  In November of 2011, Conrad drove drunk and hit a parked car in Brentwood.  Marijuana, rolling papers, and two unopened bottles of wine were found at the scene.  Hilton received probation for his offense.

Fiona Apple
Singer Fiona Apple was arrested at the infamous checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas, on September 19th for possession of marijuana and hash.  Her tour bus got flagged and searched and a small amount of marijuana and hash was found.  Fiona and her crew were heading east on the 1-10 freeway, on their way to Austin, Texas, where she had a show planned.  The show was ultimately rescheduled as Apple was immediately arrested and booked into jail, where she spent one night.  She was released the following day.

Nelly

The man born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. was arrested on October 11th after border patrol agents at—yet again—Sierra Blanca discovered 36 “small” bags of heroin, ten pounds of marijuana, and a loaded handgun on the rap star’s tour bus.  The drugs and handgun reportedly belonged to Nelly’s bodyguard Brian Keith Jones, leading the rapper to post on his Twitter account, “I’m not gone front I’m MAD as Hell about this.  2have some1 who works 4u n who u call a friend 4 ova 10years jeopardize ur life WTF?… No excuses for wad he did!!!”
