Bobby Brown in Rehab

Bobby Brown in RehabBobby Brown, singer and ex-husband to the late Whitney Houston, has entered a “confidential alcohol treatment facility” for his raging drinking problem. This is not the artist’s first time in rehab.  In March of this year, less than a month after Houston’s death, Brown was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving. On the afternoon of March 26th, he was cited by police in Reseda, CA for talking on a cellphone while driving, and then later failed a field sobriety test. Brown was charged with three misdemeanors: two DUI-related charges and one count of driving with a suspended license.

The forty-three year old singer faced six months in jail but pleaded not guilty to the charges, and copped a deal to enter a treatment facility for ninety days to avoid any jail time. He was also sentenced to three years’ informal probation, and to spend one day in jail…but that was satisfied with time served when he was taken into custody for the DUI. His attorney, Christopher Brown, confirmed to CNN that “Mr. Brown takes his agreement very seriously and admitted himself three weeks after concluding his honeymoon in Mexico during a break from the New Edition tour … Bobby is doing well and receiving services that comply with his agreement with the State of California.” He emphasized to the public that Bobby Brown was doing “very well.” A source close to Brown told popular website TMZ that Bobby “decided that he needed help and wants to make the best out of the rest of his life for his children’s sake.”

Bobbi Kristina, his daughter with Whitney Houston, didn’t seem as enthusiastic when TMZ bombarded her with questions about her father entering rehab. The camera man mentioned something about her father “rising above” his alcoholism, and she simply stated that “rise above” wasn’t the right set of words to describe the situation. While seeming uninterested in her father’s affairs to TMZ, Bobbi Kristina took to twitter to send nothing but well wishes for her father. She tweeted “W/E (Whatever) you hear, I love my father, very much & wish him well in all!! No beef at all.” Bobby Brown’s new wife, Alicia Etheridge says “Bobby’s children and loved ones are very proud of him. We appreciate his fans’ prayers and well wishes. Bobby is mentally in a good place.”

In 2005, Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, and family were all a part of the reality show Being Bobby Brown. Every week I tuned into Bravo to watch the utter chaos.  Bobby and Whitney both seemed to be hot messes and would often enter a private bedroom for what seemed like hours and come out of it totally inebriated. I hate to say it…but it was hilarious and sad at the same time. Whitney Houston regretted being a part of the ridiculous show and made sure that it never came out on DVD. I know that if it had I definitely would have purchased it.
