Relations of Cutting and Eating Disorders

A new study founded by a treatment center in Arizona states that self-injury, or also known as cutting, is being found commonly by those suffering from an eating disorder. Remuda Ranch, the treatment center that is currently studying the relationship between cutting and eating disorders, has many doctors and counselors that are looking deep into this issue. “Approximately 40 to 50 percent of our patients have either reported a history of self-injury or are presently engaging in these behaviors,” said Dena Cabrera, PsyD, psychologist and national speaker at Remuda Ranch. “This number seems to be consistent for the past five years. Are Parents To Blame For Their Childrens Eating Disorders?

In society our parents are probably the most important people who impact ones life. They are the ones who provide us with our life skills and teach us something new everyday. Binge Eating While You’re Alseep

Sleep Eating disorder affects one in one thousand adults. With that stated, more than 10 percent of adults suffer from a condition called parasomnia. Sleepwalking is the most common behavior related to parasomnia but also can include; violence, sexual behavior, sleep driving or sleep eating. The majority of people suffering from sleep eatering are women. In the rare cases where the individual engages in violence during sleep usually occur with men. Bullying in School Causes Teen Girl to Develop Anorexia

Bullying in school has become an increasingly big problem across the country. A concerned mother filed a lawsuit against the Pittsburgh, P.A. Schools last August. This lawsuit was in behalf of her 15 year old daughter, who developed the eating disorder anorexia as a result of bullying.The bullying went on when she was in 6th and 7th grade and was non-stop. The harassment included comments about her weight and calling her fat. Her mother noticed something horribly wrong and then entered her daughter into an inpatient treatment program. Bullying is a common theme found in any school but when it comes down to the intense verbal and physical abuse as witnessed in this case the school really needs to take action. Pro-Anorexia Pretzel Ad Under Fire

A recent poster spotted around New York City has been branded by the eating disorder association as the pro-anorexia pretzel. The slogan “You Can Never Be Too Thin” has sparked a national outrage leading many to graffiti add-ons such as “Actually you can” as well as other X-rated comments. Pretzel Crisps, the company advertising these ideas, has responded to the controversy, saying, “We in no way advocate unhealthy weight loss or want to promote a bad body image. We appreciate your feedback and apologize if the ad offended people. Anorexia Rates Increase Among Middle Aged Women

A new study reveals that more and more women in their thirties and older are under just as much pressure as young girls to stay thin. Stephen Touyz, a professor of clinical psychology at the University of Sydney studied a group of women from Sydney, Australia suffering from anorexia. Touyz noted that the disease was common in older women, with many of whom have suffered from it since adolescence. Some older women feel ashamed admitting they have a disorder which is associated with teens. Therefore, they often refrain from reaching out for help.
