Zohydro

Zohydro

In United States the newest drug problem has been prescription pills like OxyContin.  As of now Zogenix and other large pharmaceutical companies are testing a new opioid pain-killer for the market.  This new pill by Zogenix, known as Zohydro, contains hydrocodone with no other active ingredient.  Hydrocodone is the narcotic agent in Vicodin, which has already caused many overdoses and deaths from abuse.  Hydrocodone like all other opioids are highly addictive and easily abused. Drunken Associations

Drunken Associations

The age-old question of whether or not an alcoholic (or drug addict) can hang around their old using buddies may seem obvious on the surface – a clear and distinct ‘No’!  In further consideration of the question I believe there are some important modifying factors.  As we examine the issue more in depth, let’s look together at what a couple of these conditions might be. -How long does the individual have sober?  This seems perhaps the … Read entire article »

Addiction in the Military

Addiction in the Military

Those who serve in the military often experience events that can affect them for life causing physical and psychological damage.  This is nothing new, it has been happening for centuries. This was first exposed in the Vietnam Conflict.  Many soldiers abused drugs to cope with the conditions they were dealing with.  Today is no different. Many soldiers coming back from tours in Iraq and Afghanistan are turning to drugs to deal with their problems. The abuse … Read entire article »

Triple C

Triple C

Teens who do not have access to illicit substances or prescription drugs have turned to over-the-counter cough medicine to get high.  The most commonly abused cough medicine is Coricidin Cough & Cold, or as kids call it Triple C.  The reason these are abused is because anyone can buy them at a pharmacy and are relatively inexpensive. Although some pharmacies may require you to be 18 years old, by law there is no requirement.  Triple … Read entire article »

Workaholics

Does your office or workplace feel like home to you? Do you spend more time there than in your actual living space? Are the tasks given to you by your employer endless, requiring more time than you have to fulfill? If these seem like familiar circumstances then you may be a compulsive over-worker, what other people may people refer to as a workaholic. The term first came to be in 1968 when Wayne E. Oates wrote about ‘workaholism’ in a magazine whose readership consisted of men like him – Southern Baptist ministers. He later came to clarify and define the term thusly; “the compulsion or the uncontrollable need to work incessantly.” As a country we have since come to embrace the new word, … Read entire article »

Sex Addicts: National Epidemic or Media Myth?

Few subjects rile up humanity quite as much as sex.  From Craigslist prostitutes to online pornography, there’s a proliferation of resources for the sexually adventurous, an expanding universe of ways to hook-up with one another anonymously.   And of course with celebrities like Tiger Woods and Rick Springfield in the news proclaiming their ‘addictions to sex’ and seeking treatment, the media has a new poster child – the Sex Addict.  But does such an affliction really exist, … Read entire article »

My Psychotic Debauchery with Bath Salts

My name is Brian and I am blogging about my experiences with the recent legal designer drug known as “Bath Salts.” Although they may sound harmless, this is hardly the case. There are not even traces of sodium in the white gram-sized powders sold at smoke shops nation-wide. They are snorted like cocaine or methamphetamine and have similar mimicking affects. I first tried this drug in January of 2010. It was in the form of relapse from gateway drugs I used in the past. I knew it was sold at a smoke shop by my parents’ house, so one day, off I went. When I bought the vial of bath salts named ‘White Lightening,” the store employee also gave me a Slurpee straw with an end shaped like a small spoon … Read entire article »

Give the Gift of Sobriety

Gift giving doesn’t have to be limited to flashy jewelry or the latest in blood soaked video games.  A more meaningful and longer lived present can come from a positive book, one centered on the struggles we have living a spiritual life in an often profane world.  For your loved one in recovery this holiday season (or any other time) I’ve compiled a list of the top ten books involving alcoholism, addiction, mental illness, or treatment centers.  I’ve personally read most of them and heard glowing recommendations from friends for the others.  In all cases I’d be interested in hearing feedback from you, the reading audience.  Let me know your thoughts on these memoirs, novels, and accounts – as well as any other books that might have been left off.  … Read entire article »
