Family Dinners Help Prevent Teenage Drug Abuse
Who would have guessed that if your teenager sits down at the table they are less likely to engage in alcohol and drugs? The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University suggests that teens should sit down at the table for dinner. The relation seems askew but it really does make a huge difference. The study states that teens who eat dinner less than five nights a week are twice as likely to engage in alcohol, tobacco and marijuana use. My personal experience with this is, I hated sitting at dinner with my family. I did not want to engage in any personal level conversation with them because I did not want them to find out what I was doing and primarily did not care to have a relationship … Read entire article »

Adolescent Drug Abuse on the Rise
Drug abuse among adolescents is becoming less of a public health concern via the media and this represents a problem. A report from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health was conducted and the startling results barely made it to the news like it previously would have. Cambodia Opens Up First Methadone Clinic
Outstanding news comes from Cambodia, a treatment center for heroin users. Although Cambodia believes heroin addiction is more a social issue rather than a health issue, help is on its way. The government is announcing their treatment centers are available for those willing to put in hard work. This is very beneficial for those who seek help. With all the hype about a treatment center opening up in Cambodia inevitably comes the gossip and critics. Health workers and human rights groups portray the facility as a “labour camp.” To me, this label is far from accurate. From my experience, the treatment center I attended that involved hard work and exercise prepared my mind, body, and spirit for outstanding results. Coming into treatment broken down and tired was difficult but working … Read entire article »

Actor Chris Klein Accepts Responsibility for his Actions
The actor, Chris Klein, pleads no contest to a DUI charge on Friday. This charge was involved with his June 16th arrest on the 101 Freeway. We all know Chris is famous for his appearance on “American Pie”, but his ability to cope with the court system is what catches the media’s attention. Chris stated to the judge,“ I apologize for my wrongdoing and I really appreciate that the court gave me the opportunity to prove how seriously I took all of this.” To me, this statement means a lot, a celebrity being able to realize his actions and take responsibility for them, is definitely surprising in today’s media. He has served four days in jail already but he is on four years of probation and 18 months in an alcohol … Read entire article »
