Another Amanda Bynes Meltdown

Former child actress Amanda Bynes made news again this week after another outlandish stunt. Bynes was taken into custody by Ventura Co. Sheriff’s deputies this week after lighting a fire in front of an old folk’s home in her hometown of Thousand Oaks, CA.

Bynes has been in the news a lot this year, but she certainly isn’t picking up any “good press.” Last December she entered into a civil agreement to settle a lawsuit against her after hit-and-run charges were filed. She was also charged with driving on a suspended license, and she actually lost her driver’s license for a while. Then, after being asked to leave a gymnastics’ class for her behavior, she was kicked out of the gym for smoking pot inside the locker room and arrested for allegedly dropping a bong onto the street below from her high-rise apartment. The outcome from that case is still pending, and Amanda denies the charges and any marijuana use.

In her latest debacle, Bynes allegedly arrived at an elderly care home to visit a relative, but was turned away after employees suspected she was intoxicated. They called a cab for her, but she jumped out of the vehicle after realizing she had no money. Poor Amanda.

Amanda wanted to make a statement, perhaps a cry for help, so she set herself on fire with gasoline in front of the nursing home. A witness reported seeing Amanda, legs on fire, lying on the ground in front of the home. Police arrived and took her in after determining she fit the criteria for a 5150 psychiatric hold. No charges were filed and Bynes will be released from the hospital in less than 72 hours.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Bynes was one of the most popular actresses on children’s TV. Amanda has won multiple awards for her roles in movies and television, including “Hairspray”, “What a Girl Wants”, “Easy A”, “All That” and “The Amanda Show”.

After all that (pun intended) Amanda has been through, one cannot help but wonder if she has a mental illness or is using drugs heavily. Perhaps she is suffering from a dual diagnosis. Although she does not admit to it, there is reason to believe that she has been using marijuana.

While most people think of those under the influence of pot as calm and docile, in reality marijuana can induce temporary psychosis. It certainly clouds one’s judgment. I suspect that many of this poor girl’s mistakes are associated with marijuana use. I hope and pray that this will be a wake-up call for her and that she will get the help she needs.

Oftentimes, addicts act out in such crazy ways because they are unhappy with their lives, desire change, and desperately want to get help. If you know someone who did something you don’t understand while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, please be patient and understanding with them – it may be their cry for help.

I know from experience that marijuana and alcohol can severely effect judgment and cause someone to act in a psychotic manner. Don’t risk going psycho or setting yourself on fire. Get help as soon as possible. Call the treatment4addiction.com hotline, before it’s too late.
