Fighting Meth Online

In the state of Indiana, law enforcements are cracking down on meth. Meth destroys the mind, body, and spirit. Not only that but users put the valuable things in life such as their family behind them and put the drug in front of everything else. The law enforcements are at an emergency to shut down meth labs found with children present. Over 100 Indiana children have been taken from homes with meth labs this year. One third of these children removed from the households tested positive for meth.

“There is not a drug out there that is more addictive and damaging to people, homes, and families than methamphetamine,” said State Police 1st. Sargent Nikki Crawford.

Pseudoephedrine is the key ingredient found in meth and is an over-the-counter drug at pharmacies. Indiana State Police are working on tracking suspicious use of the substances used in meth. They will use an online system developed by the Tennessee Meth Task Force. The software addresses a problem law enforcement officers encountered in gathering information about the sale of pseudoephedrine. Hopefully this new online system cracks down on drug users and brings peace in homes.

In 2005, a state law went into effect which required all retail stores and pharmacies to keep pseudoephedrine behind the counter. This was put in place to hopefully limit the quantity of each sale and to keep records of who is buying it. The difficulty with this was that paper records of each sale are hard to keep track of and was just a big mess in the long run.

Now with the new software that is being used, retailers send their pseudoephedrine sales logs to the database, and law enforcement officers can search records instantly.

Indiana and many other states are working hard to crack down on overall drug use. It is common to find drug use in any area but law enforcements are cracking down to hopefully ensure safety within households.
