Drugs from Grandpa

An 85-year-old man is facing felony drug charges after police arrested him Friday August 13th, for attempting to convey drugs to his grandson, an inmate at the Warren Correctional Institution.

Richard J. Heritz of West Chester was charged with attempting to convey drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility, a third-degree felony, and possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.

The Department of Rehabilitation and Correction investigators gained information that Heritz would be delivering drugs to his grandson during a scheduled visit. When the 85-year-old arrived for his visit troopers confronted him about his involvement. Heritz immediately surrendered one package containing about 22 grams of a substance the guards suspected to be marijuana. It is estimated that marijuana is worth $ 23 per gram in Ohio’s correctional institutes.

Heritz was transported to the Warren County Jail, where he is on bail for $10,000. If convicted, Heritz could face up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
